WHY Do You Go To Your Mat?

why yoga, peace, spirituality reason
When is the last time you thought about why you practice yoga?  What is it that you are looking to get out of your practice, what is the feeling you crave?  Are you looking for yoga to make you more flexible?  Maybe you are looking to gain range of motion or you want to have movement without pain?  There could be endless reasons amongst practitioners.
My own personal reasons for practicing yoga have changed over the years.  When I was younger, I loved how yoga made me feel happy and strong, specifically after mastering a challenging pose or class.  Now that I am slightly older, I love the gentleness of the practice and the flexibility I maintain.  I go to my mat now to reboot and focus more on the stretch and the clarity of the moment.

The Struggle With The Clock

There have been times when I struggle with the clock and have made choices that don’t fulfill my core desires.  I like feeling strong, happy, healthy, mobile, agile, proud, accomplished, etc.  When I skipped a yoga class because I had household chores to do instead, it just made me unhappy.
I’ve found that I needed to re-evaluate my choices in order to move forward in a healthier and happy way.    I had to refocus on my core WHY’s or reasons that brought me to my practice in the first place.  I wanted to feel strong, accomplished, proud, at ease, healthy and definitely not stiff.  Yoga made me feel all of these things and I was missing out.
Now I start each day with writing in my day planner, What I Will Do To Feel The Way I Want To Feel, What I will do to feel the way I want to feelby Danielle LaPorte.  It’s very simple, I write what I am going to do on that specific day that will help me feel the way I want to feel.  Yoga is always on that list and I’m finding time somehow to fit it all in the day.  It’s amazing how sometimes the simple act of writing your feelings, your core desires, your to-do-list, keeps you on track to accomplish all your dreams.
